International Volunteer Day – Meet the Hub!

Home ~ Find support ~ EDV blog ~ International Volunteer Day – Meet the Hub!
Volunteers are at the heart of EDV at every level from our helpline, to our stories of recovery ambassadors, our brand ambassadors, or our board of directors.

For this year’s International Volunteer Day, we’re spotlighting our helpline the Hub. It’s a free and confidential service to connect you with information, support and referral services.

The Hub is fully run by volunteers and if you’ve connected with us before, you’ve likely spoken with one of these compassionate people.

Who volunteers on the Hub?

When you call the Hub, you will always be greeted by someone personally interested in eating disorders. Many volunteers have either recovered from an eating disorder, been a carer for a loved one, or studied a related field like psychology or counselling.

These knowledgeable volunteers are always fully trained by EDV to provide the best and most personalised support to every caller. They complete a comprehensive internal training program, followed by an observation period, supervised period and three-month probationary period.

Basically, when you call the Hub, you can rest assured that our volunteers aren’t just fulfilling a resume highlight they actually care

We’re walking beside someone in their story. From there, we’re collaborating with them to identify what’s going to be the helpful next step.”

– Mel, Hub Manager

What impact do volunteers have?

In the past year alone, our volunteers have taken over 2,000 calls, guiding people to the best support options at EDV and beyond. The volunteer workforce is vital for us to continue this work.

This International Volunteer Day we’re sending a massive thank you to all our volunteers. From the EDV Hub team, to our incredible Ambassadors, and dedicated Board members—we couldn’t do this without you!

Give for 2025

At EDV, our dedicated staff and volunteers are working towards our vision—a future where individuals and communities thrive through empowered and safe relationships to food, eating, body and movement.

Accessing services is part of that vision.

We already know what works to make recovery possible for any person with an eating disorder. Yet limited funding means we’re only reaching about 4% of people. This needs to change.

Your gift can help make this possible.

Donate to our annual Holiday Appeal and help us help more people, more often.
