After a comprehensive recruitment process, the Board of Eating Disorders Victoria (EDV) is delighted to announce Paul Bird as the new CEO to lead our mission of supporting all Victorians impacted by eating disorders.

Paul comes to EDV from Brainwave Australia, an organisation supporting children impacted by brain conditions and their families. He brings lived experience as a carer for his wife and daughter who have both experienced eating disorders.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the EDV team. I’ve known EDV for a number of years I have such respect for the quality of the service and the outcomes the organisation achieves for Victorians impacted by eating disorders,” says Paul.

“With over 300,000 Victorians living with an eating disorder, EDV has a critical role to enable individuals and communities to thrive through empowered and safe relationships to food, eating, body and movement.”

With an international career in non-profit leadership, Paul has worked across the health, youth, humanitarian, and environmental sectors. Over the last five years at Brainwave Australia, he has grown the organisation to support 1,800 children and their families nationally. He has also been CEO of AVI, YSAS and Very Special Kids.

EDV Board Chair Emma Reid says, “Paul brings a wonderful sense of social justice and authenticity. With his strong background in purpose-driven strategy, sector collaboration and financial sustainability, we are confident EDV is in good hands. Paul will be an excellent leader to build upon our team’s work and successes and we are excited to work together.”

Paul has a Master of International and Community Development, and in 2022 authored PurposeFull: How businesses and not-for-profits do better as purpose-driven organisations.

Outgoing CEO Belinda Caldwell’s last day with EDV is 7 May. Paul will commence with EDV on 29 June. In the interim, EDV Director of Programs and Operations Susie Hansen will act as CEO.
